The official opening ceremony of MASPO Enerji A.Ş.’s ALA-2 geothermal power plant, with an installed capacity of 30 MW and located in Manisa Alaşehir, was held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.
The new phase of the geothermal power plant investments of MASPO Enerji A.Ş., a Gürmen Group company, with an installed capacity of 30 MW in Manisa Alaşehir, was officially inaugurated through a ceremony attended via video conference by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, and in person by Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Şeref Kalaycı.
Following the recent provisional acceptance by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the official opening of the 30 MW ALA-2 geothermal power plant positioned MASPO Enerji A.Ş.’s investments among Türkiye’s largest power plant projects.
Speaking after the opening ceremony, Gürmen Group Chairman of the Board Remzi Gür stated:
“As a Group, we invest in environmentally friendly renewable energy to contribute to a more livable world. In implementing these investments, we identified geothermal energy as a strategic priority. Türkiye ranks first in Europe and fourth in the world in geothermal energy and has significant growth potential. The officially inaugurated ALA-2 geothermal power plant represents a major milestone in our renewable energy investments. We are proud to bring this investment to our country and to contribute to the development of geothermal energy in Türkiye.”
MASPO Enerji A.Ş. General Manager Murat Solmaz said:
“With the commissioning of the ALA-2 geothermal power plant of MASPO Enerji A.Ş., a Gürmen Group company—the first and only group from Türkiye accepted into the RE100 platform, which includes companies that source 100% of their energy consumption from renewable resources—we have reached a total installed renewable energy capacity of 40 MW. As MASPO Enerji A.Ş., we will continue to expand our renewable energy and geothermal-focused investments in line with our sustainability vision.”
“We Are Preparing for New Investments to Use Geothermal Energy More Efficiently”
Stating that MASPO Enerji A.Ş. holds the largest and most productive geothermal license in the Manisa region with a total area of 12,650 hectares, Murat Solmaz continued:
“In 2017, we commissioned ALA-1, our first-phase geothermal power plant with an installed capacity of 10 MW, and initiated the investment process for the 30 MW ALA-2 geothermal power plant. With the official opening of ALA-2, we have taken a major step toward achieving our goals.”
Commenting on future investment plans, Solmaz added:
“We have raised our targets. We have started working on integrated geothermal investments and continue our feasibility studies on greenhouse farming and agricultural projects utilizing geothermal energy efficiently. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts without interruption for the third phase of our investments.”
