Maspo Energy Raised Its Targets in Geothermal Investments with the Ala-2 Power Plant!

The official inauguration of MASPO Enerji A.Ş.’s 30 MW ALA-2 Geothermal Power Plant, located in Alaşehir, Manisa, was held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

The official opening ceremony of ALA-2—the new 30 MW phase of the geothermal power plant investments of MASPO Enerji A.Ş., a Gürmen Group company, located in Alaşehir, Manisa—was held via video conference with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, and with the personal attendance of Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Şeref Kalaycı.

Following its recent provisional acceptance by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the official inauguration of MASPO Enerji A.Ş.’s 30 MW ALA-2 geothermal power plant in Alaşehir, Manisa, positioned the company’s investments among Türkiye’s largest power plant investments.

Speaking after the inauguration ceremony, Gürmen Group Chairman of the Board Remzi Gür stated: “As a Group, we invest in environmentally friendly renewable energy to contribute to a more livable world. In implementing our investments in this field, we primarily identified geothermal energy as a strategic area. Türkiye ranks first in Europe and fourth in the world in geothermal energy and has significant growth potential. The officially inaugurated ALA-2 geothermal power plant marked an important milestone in our renewable energy investments, and we are pleased to bring this investment to our country and contribute to the development of geothermal energy in Türkiye.”

MASPO Enerji A.Ş. General Manager Murat Solmaz said: “With the commissioning of the ALA-2 geothermal power plant of MASPO Enerji A.Ş.—one of the Gürmen Group companies, which is the first and only group from Türkiye accepted into the RE100 platform, comprising companies that produce all the energy they consume from renewable sources—we have reached an installed renewable energy capacity of 40 MW. As MASPO Enerji A.Ş., we continue to increase our renewable energy investments, particularly in geothermal energy, in line with our sustainability vision.”

“We are preparing for new investments to utilize geothermal energy more efficiently”

Stating that MASPO Enerji A.Ş. currently holds the largest and most productive license in the Manisa region, with geothermal fields covering 12,650 hectares, Murat Solmaz continued: “In 2017, we commissioned ALA-1, a 10 MW geothermal power plant, as the first phase of our geothermal investments, and initiated the investment process for the 30 MW ALA-2 geothermal power plant. With the official opening of ALA-2, we have taken a major step toward achieving our goals.”

Regarding new investment targets, MASPO Enerji A.Ş. General Manager Murat Solmaz added: “We have raised our targets. We have started working on integrated geothermal investments and continue our feasibility studies for greenhouse and agricultural investments where geothermal energy is used efficiently. At the same time, we are proceeding without interruption with preparations for the third phase of our investments.”
